Police ask for more budget amid criticism
National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo announced that the force would need an additional budget of Rp 4.09 trillion, mainly allocated for personnel recruitment and infrastructure improvement. The additional budget would be used this year.[indirect speech]
“We currently have a lack of personnel, especially whenever we are tasked to address social conflicts or mass rallies,” Timur said before the House legal and security commission on Thursday.[direct speech]
He said the National Police had announced earlier its intention to recruit 10,000 personnel of petty officers. These officers will later on be distributed throughout the police precincts in the country.[indirect speech]
This year, the National Police have been granted a Rp 48 trillion annual budget. The House’s security commission chief Benny Kabur Harman said that lawmakers were ready to approve the request because this had been part of the government’s effort to improve services.
“We have no reason to reject the request because we fully realize that this has been part of the government’s plan to improve services,” Benny said.[direct speech]
However, Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) coordinator Neta S Pane objected to the plan, saying that the police had showed minor improvements compared to the amount of the requested budget.“We have seen the police fail to carry out their duties in many places throughout the country. Thus the only option is to improve themselves first before asking for more money,” he told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
Beforehand, police expert Bambang Widodo Umar had also said that he would agree if the additional budget was allocated to improving the skills of existing personnel rather than recruiting more officers.
“Make the money count by improving the skills of field officers so they can minimize misconduct while handling field duties. This will be more meaningful than just recruiting more men,” Bambang said.

ADJECTIVE CLAUSE
Adjective Clause adalah clausa yang fungsinya menerangkan kata benda.
Pengertian Adjective Clause di bagi menjadi 2 yaitu :
- Adjective adalah Part of word clause that modifies noun
- Clause adalah kombinasi dari subjek dan predikat tetapi tidak dapat berfungsi.
adjective clause adalah klausa yang digunakan sebagai adjective. Sebagai adjective, adjective clause digunakan sebagai modifier yaitu untuk menerangkan noun dan pronoun, tetapi tidak pernah digunakan sebagai object kalimat.
Adjective clause dibagi menjadi dua macam, yaitu:
1. Important (defining) adjective clause, yaitu adjective clause yang merupakan informasi penting bagi antecedent.
2. Unimportant (undefining) adjective clause, yaitu adjective clause yang merupakan informasi yang tidak penting bagi antece
Clause ini digunakan untuk memberi keterangan, identitas, dan informasi lain kepada katabenda (Antecedent). Dalam struktur Adjective Clause ditandai dengan Relative Pronoun, yaitu: who, whom, whose, which.
